The Sunrise Communities are Festival rich

From Fourth of July through mid-September, the Sunrise Communities of Oregon's Mt Hood Territory plan for a busy festival season. Milwaukie, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Boring, Clackamas and Damascus all prepare for fun in the sun with annual festivals that include activities such as history walks, parades, games, petting zoos, prizes, fireworks, live music, famous name impersonators, Disney characters, chili cook off, community and business showcases and even "toilet seat toss" competition.

Happy Valley celebrates the Fourth of July with a Family Festival complete with Mayor's Hike. Other activities include a family float and bicycle parade, live Jazz, Disney characters and a fireworks show. Visitors can enjoy food vendors with everything from BBQ, Mexican, Pizza, cold sandwiches and ice cream. Local businesses are featured in booths displaying their products and services. If Arts and Crafts are your thing, a display of items will be featured. Milwaukie Riverfront Park is the site for Riverfest, the annual celebration coordinated by Celebrate Milwaukie, Inc. the third week end in July. This traditional "hometown atmosphere" festival includes a Saturday parade down Main Street and concludes with stunning fireworks over the Willamette River. Those attending won't want to miss Milwaukie's feature activity, the Toil Seat Toss, an annual poke at the grassroots movement to relocate the riverfront's water treatment plant to a different location. Being on the riverfront is always a draw, and spectators can enjoy music and food while they soak up atmosphere.

Gladstone will roll out the red carpet for their first week end in August tradition of Chautauqua. Now celebrating over twenty-five years of the event, which draws folks from near and far for a multitude of activities. This annual summer festival features Movies in the Park, crowning of Queen Victoria and Lord Gladstone by Mayor Wade Byers, food booths and Arts & Crafts booths, Carnival, Parade, beer garden and the annual Chili Cook-Off.

At the end of July the newly incorporated city of Damascus presents the annual Damascus Day in the Park, set for the last Saturday in July. This is a great fun-filled opportunity for young and old. From games and petting zoo for the kids to informational booths for the adults, you'll want to be in Damascus for the event at the city park behind the Fire Station. Food and beverages, fun games for the kids, team games and local color are all part of the day.

The community of Boring, on the eastern side of the North Clackamas area, joins the festival list with an event in July that includes a celebration of Boring Station and the Springwater Trail. Bicyclists and walkers from the region can join in the community picnic and other events at the Boring Station site.
